Les Misérables is set over the course of 17 years of French history. It opens in Toulon in 1815, with Jean Valjean a prison under the watchful eye of Inspector Javert. The show then cuts to Montreil-sur-Mer in 1823. The final part takes place in Paris in 1832, with some of the latter moments occurring in an undetermined future.
